How to manage a French exhange student

About the poll, that I haven't changed this week (which I'm really sorry about) went like this;
An amazing singing voice, 9 votes (50%)
Stunning guitar skills, 6 votes
Higher IQ, 2 votes
Oscar-awarding acting skills, 1 vote

I was kinda surpisred really, I thought most of you would take higher IQ. So you would rather be a (really) good singer than smarter? XD Haha, to be honest that is also what I would vote. I guess most people can sing but it's really something to sing really good (like Demi! :D)
I've put up a new poll now, it is only until Wednesday, so vote away!

Okej this is my "Guide to managing a French exchange student" :

-They either eat very much or very little; so buy extra bread for breakfast. Or don't worry about them not liking the food, some of them just eat very little (have you seen the size of them? they're all like sticks!)

-They are not very good at English; so if you don't know French it will occur communication problems (I know French pretty well, even so there were misunderstandings). Therefore remember to keep the english very simple. Buy a dictionary!

-Be careful with "Mis casa es su casa"; you might think everyone knows what it really means. But some might take the words literally, then there's no turning back. (Yikes!)

-Give them a room of their own; that is if it's possible. You might not want to give up your room but it will be much more comfortable for both you and the student. It doesn't just give the student a certain freedom but also for yourself, because when they're in the room you don't have to look after them!

-Be nice; well duh! EVEN when it's hard (oh yeah!) you have to try to the best, because it would be horrible if your host student (family) would get angry at you. And besides they will leave soon!

-Let them hang with other; it is so much of a relief if you introduce them to siblings, friends, girl/boy friends. (oh believe me!) Because they can help you keep the student busy while you "have to" do other things.

-Be careful about lending money; they live in France and have euro, right. What if they "forget" and "only has euro"? When will you get your money back? It's not like they'll send you the money from France.

-They will be demanding; well it depends much on the student but I can tell you most of them will want to stay "just a little bit longer" or everything just a little bit more. Be prepared in case you really have to tell them off. You have the responsibility of them and they have to listen to you.

-Prepare for a culture clash; well not something major but small things. Some French have shoes inside and drink from bowls (not kidding). You have to tell them if something isn't quite alright doing or not doing here. Or if it's something you do and they don't usually do, be considerate.

-Always be 5 minutes ahead; the French have a tendency to be slightly slow; in the morning, eating dinner, walking or basically everything. XD You don't want to be the one that always says "Hurry!" and make them all stressed out. So if you're catching the bus or whatever tell them that it goes 5 minutes earlier, the same with school schedule.

-Don't go crushing on them; face it they will leave eventually. Will you work out a (very) long-distance relationship? I don't think so. (even if they happen to be the cutest one you've ever seen XD)

Sources and facts: real life experience.

Good Luck ! XD
