twentyone

The past couple of weeks have been insanely busy with coursework, internship, managing my subediting team et cetera et cetera. This Wednesay possibly saw the most intense 4 hours in my life, racing through dozens of articles, editing out things, adding links, uploading pictures. It was a journalistic madness. I had to even be forced to go to the bathroom before I actually went. But it's good fun, I enjoy it. I'm actually in denial of actually how much I enjoy it. You could at least have a look at our website, after those 4 hours of blood, sweat and tears. Hollowayexpress.co.uk

However in the end I pulled through and now with only one really short presentation left before Easter break I can finally have some down time. Thank god. Not to mention it's my birthday tomorrow. My first ever birthday being away from home (and surely not the last).

How can I turn 21? It should be illegal, TWENTY ONE?! I still haven't accepted that I'm 20! Time please! XD Anyway, the positive side of it all is that for the occassion I'm going to treat myself a iPhone 4. Yup, tech snob that I will be. Trying to sort out the micro SIM and everything right now, quite a process actually.

So yeah, what I need to do know is come to terms that tomorrow I'll be...2.....1? Goodness, bless me! XD

Toodles,
Tiffany

Hitler and PR is a no-go

Dior: Galliano just won't do
So what's with this whole John Galliano scandal, huh?

Less than a month ago newspapers across the globe published stories claiming that the Dior head designer had hurled antisemitic and rasist comments at a couple in a bar in Paris. Having denied blindly, a video emerged a couple of days later showing Galliano insulting two women including a statement saying that all "jews should have been gassed" and that he loved Hitler.

My first thought was, wow those are really harsh words, how the heck will he get out of it? Even though he was drunk and probably high on something (which is stressed dearly by his lawyer) one doesn't simply blurt out that they love Hitler if so isn't the case, after having a couple of bottles of wine or a snort. Obviously these were his actual personal opinions.

I was kind of smiley-face about it because we know the fashion industry is a shady business with big headed and surely slightly Nazi people, it's not a secret. So when one of the big fishes were caught I thought now those high flying egos were going to be drawn back to the ground (at least a little).

But after Dior announced that they sacked Galliano and that his own label would eventually be axed, I realized this was actually dead serious business.

Having admired Galliano's collections for years, I suddenly felt Dior was overreacting. Whoever thinks Nazism died with the Hitler has to have a serious reality check. Nobody sincerely believes we're living in a Nazism free society, do they? There ought to be tons of people blurting out anti-semitic comments every other day. So why didn't they just throw him into rehab and surely after 6 months it'll all be forgotten since we all probably will be talking about Kate Middleton being pregnant or something. Why the sack?

It just shows how crucial a brand image is for a company, especially a fashion company. The brand is paramount, it has to be spotless. Nobody wants to wear 'a Nazi'.

Sincerely,
Tiffany

#OfficiallyCrazy

I'm seriously considering a teaching job just to be able to do a production of Les Misérables. Officially crazy or what?

You know, if I crash and burn with this fashion marketing or journalism thing of a career, I'm definitely gonna have a go at Music/Drama teacher. Poor children, I'm gonna be so harsh on them. Especially the kid playing Marius. (Actually just snorted IRL)

Tiffany

Screw everything

I sacrifice so much and get nothing back. Why the hell should I do it in the first place then?

Hate this f*cking shit.

That's Miss Production Editor for you

So I've got some good news. (Wow, once in 1000 years right?) I got the position I applied for, in our roleplay interview/ job thing in Journalism & Employability. I'm the production editor of the Holloway Express every other week.

I'm actually not quite sure why I'm so excited about it because after all it's just a fake job. Maybe it's because the role sounds so amazingly grande or that I beat at least one guy for the position (sorry, bro). So from next week on I'll be busy deploying my subeditors to edit copies, attend editorial meetings, checking every page before publication and make sure everyone meet the deadline.

Gosh, I do love the sound of that. Wow, that sound really pretentious but whatever, a girl has the right to boast once in a while. ;)

Sincerely,
Tiffany

Dear Person,

I hope you're happy. You've done it again.

Every time I'm about to forget all about you, you just manage to come back. And this time you're in a god forsaken suit? If you are deliberately trying to kill me, you are doing a heck of a job.

Do you know why it has been bearable to look at you in (wherever it is), it's because you have no sense of style. And today you show up looking ridiculously smart in that shirt, black blazer and those black shoes. Despicable!

And that disgusting gorgeous smile of yours, I hate it! Do you know how hard it is not to stare when you do that?

So I have just one thing to say, and I mean it: Don't you ever let me see you in a shirt or combed hair again. I can't take responsibility for what I might do it happens again, whatever it is it won't be nice.

For now I'm just going to pretend you have a girlfriend and possibly never make eye contact again. Ever.

Yours truly,
Tiffany

While waiting for my DVDs

Natalie Portman in Rodarte
Florence Welch in Valentino Couture
Gwyneth Platrow in Calvin Klein
Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott

(pictures via guardian.co.uk)
So it's Oscars time again! Always makes me feel all tingly inside, and the butterflies certainly didn't go away knowing awesome Anne Hathaway and James Franco were hosting the awards this year. Not having seen the ceremony yet, because I'm waiting for the recorded DVDs my dad sent me this morning to arrive, is simply killing me. I watched the live red carpet stream though, which I usually do. What was the verdict?

Other than the disappointment of lack of stars on the red carpet, there were some beautiful dresses out there. My favourite have to be Amy Adams navy blue L'Wren Scott, I just love that high neckline and the necklace is a really nice touch.

Natalie Portman would come a close second in a stunning Rodarte looking happy and pregnant. Gwyneth Platrow just looked like a million bucks in that sleek and simple Calvin Klein, not to sure about the belt thing but I loved the straight nice hair with those statement earrings. Gorgeous! I was quite surprised seeing Florence Welch on the red carpet, but as always she brings in a wind of freshness with her vintage style. The Ginger hair just goes so well with the dress.

Well, hopefully the DVDs will come before the end of the week, even though I know all the winners already, it's not the same thing wihtout all the clicheé monitor lines, suspense and the few jokes.
Sincerely,
Tiffany
